Switched over to live bait and it is paying off. Limits coming on main lake humps and points and also up shallow early and late. I like throwing big Gizzard shad up shallow and letting the big Sow Stripers pick them up and make a long run!!! Gotta love catching big fish in shallow water. The Sows are full of eggs and gorging on shad, big fat healthy Stripers. With the warming water temps it won't be long and you'll see big Top Water baits tied on the end of my rods ready to wage war on the shallow running linesiders. Don't go if you have a weak heart, nothing like having a 15 to 20LB Striper blow up at the boat on a big Redfin!!!! As always, God Bless you and yours and hope to, " C Ya on the Water."

A review of the year 2009!

What a year we've had on Whitney. First I have been blessed with a sponsorship with Uncle Gus marina http://www.unclegus.com/ and a New Polar 220 Bay powered with a 4 stroke Yamaha F250, 101lb 36 volt trolling motor and state of the art electronics. Loving this ride!!! Fishing has been absolutely awesome all year with limits coming most trips. Big fish to 16#'s this year and expecting an awesome spring with some 20 pound fish thrown in the mix in 2010. We (Team Redneck) have won the Texas Striper association tournament on Lake Whitney the last 3 years running and are looking forward to a repeat in 2010. At the time of this writing we are in a winter pattern, dead sticking soft plastics and strolling swim baits. I prefer using a sensetive rod to detect these sometimes subtle winter bites such as the 7' MH Kistler Carbon Steel, check these out at http://www.kistlerrods.com/ Cold weather and hot action! I am currently doing weekly radio show with Luke Clayton Outdoors talking fishing on Lake Whitney and giving up to date reports on Stripers and Catfishing on Lake Whitney and these can be heard on line at http://www.catfishradio.com/. We are currently working on a guest page for you to be able to log into to let us know how well you enjoyed your fishing experiance on lake Whitney with Team Redneck. May God Bless you and yours in 2010 and as always hope to, " C Ya on the Water!"

The winter bite is on!

The water temps are dropping and the bait fish are being forced from the shallows and are ganging up in a safety in numbers type deal. The Stripers and Sand Bass are merging into larger schools, chasing and trapping the shad (bait fish) to either the surface or into cuts and coves along the shore and are gorging on them. When this happens the Sea Gulls will start diving and feeding on the bait that is being pushed to the surface. A good pair of optics come in handy at this time of year.

I am using either slabs or soft plastic to target these schooling fish and am catching limits of fish on every trip. The larger Stripers are starting to show up, most are averaging between 20 to

22 inches with a few 5 to 7 LB and larger fish thrown in the mix. I also like to put down some Danny Kings punch bait on rod and reel while catching the Stripers and Sandies as big Blue Cats will move in under the schooling fish and feed on what they drop. To learn more about these fishing techniques, give me a call and come to Lake Whitney.

We are offering gift certificates just in time for Christmas.

May God Bless you and yours and I hope to,

"C Ya on the water."

Randy Routh

Team Redneck goes Hollywood???

What a year we have experienced at Lake Whitney, the rains and floods brought a new look to the lake this year in 2007. At one point we where 23' high and rising. All the ramps and parks where closed and the lake looked like a ghost town. I found a place where I was able to launch my boat and meet clients and be able to fish. The Egrets had made a rookery of sorts out on an island and when the flood waters rose up in the trees it created a natural chum line that drew in the Catfish.

This had to be one of the, if the not the absolute best rod and reel Catfish bites ever experienced. I called a friend of mine, outdoor journalist Luke Clayton, and told him, "Luke, you had better come get ya some."

Wasn't long before Luke and some folks from Catfish Gold magazine and Danny King's punch bait found there way to Lake Whitney. What a day on the water, one of those days you dream about. The bite was on and we had a blast, catching doubles and triples of Channel Cats and Blues, all on Danny Kings punch bait. The scenery with all the birds in the flooded trees was something many people would travel the world to see, it was a tropical setting in Texas, and a memory I will never forget.

My Team Redneck Guide Service ended up being spotlighted in over 58 newspapers, 2 magazines, and a TV show with Fox Four's anchor, Richard Ray. Also a made for TV commercial with the Catfish Gold Girls for Catfish Gold Magazine and Danny Kings punch bait was shot. A big thank you goes out to Melvin Bush with Pro-Striper Guide service for furnishing the chase boat for the camera crew. You can see these from my website, http://www.teamredneck.net/, just click on the links.

I will be doing 2 more TV shows this March with the fine folks from Ark-La-Tx Sportsman Outdoors show and one more with Fox Four's Richard Ray.

And as always, may God Bless you and hope to,

C Ya on the water.

Pro Guide,

Randy Routh

Gift Certificates.

Just in time for Christmas, or any occaision.
Team Redneck Guide Service is now offering gift certificates for that fisherman or lady in your family or business. The Lake has come up to within 5' of pool and the fishing had been great. Many catches of Striper and Blue Cats caught under the birds. I am anxiously awaiting for the spring patterns this March, April and May. The Lake is Full of Shad and the fish are gorging on them and we should see some very healthy fish caught this spring along with multiple limits being caught. I am working with Uncle Gus' Marina on a new sponsorship with Polar Boats and Yamaha outboards and am getting near to being in a new Polar model 2310 Bay Boat. I recently recieved all new custom KISTLER rods and they are awesome. The phone is ringing and I am starting to book spring trips now. Be sure and come experiance Lake Whitney and all it has to offer. Hope to see ya on the water.
Pro Guide Randy Routh. 817-822-5539

Johnson County Kids.

I was blessed this past summer by being invited by Johnson County Juvenile services to work with their first time offendors and try to help turn some young lives around. We took them out to a Ranch I manage and take care in south central Texas. It sprawls across 2 counties and is full of Texas history. We started the day with me showing them around, started with a log cabin that Charles Goodnight helped build, took them down through the woods and creeks and showed them wildlife sign and tracks. Up to a hill we call School Tree where many years ago they use to actually hold school under a group of Oak trees that grow out of one root sysytem. We wrapped up the day fishing the stock tanks and creeks and had a lunch break under a stand of Oaks. I can only hope that in some small way I made a difference in there lives. If we helped one then it was all worth while.

Team Redneck in the news.

Just took Luke Clayton with Texas Outdoors journal out for a story on Lake Aquilla that will be featured in the Texas Outdoors journal in June, 2006. ( Texas Striper Association) Got up the morning of the tournament and the wind was howling with 25 mph sustained winds and gust over 30 mph. With extreme caution we pulled out I quickly realized my abilities as a Captain far exceeded the limits of my vessel, I made a hard turn into the waves and finally made it into a semi protected creek/cove, found an old roadbed that I have not fished in quite some time and set up a drift. It paid off and we took first place again at Tawakoni. We will return to Tawakoni again this year on Sept. 23rd then back again on Oct. 21 for the Texas State Championship. So far we have won the 2005 Pro Division Texas Striper Association on LakeTawakoni and 2006 as well. My goal is to win all 3 tournaments they are hosting at Tawakoni this year. I'll keep ya posted. For more info on the Texas Striper Association go to www.texasstriper.com Good fishing and remember. Wind changed Friday night and turned out of the Northeast and then started the day with high skies and no wind, made for a tough day. You know what I say, when the going gets tough the tough go...Fishing! LOL. Never thought one fish would place in the top five but it did. Out of the whole field only 4 of us caught fish. Wish me luck, next month is the Buchanan Classic 10,000 and a boat for first place and TV and radio coverage. Take care

Update on the bite at Whitney.

Things are looking good, catching magnum sand bass mixed with stripers on artificial. They are spawning on this up coming full moon and this bite should last around a month. The stripers are going shallow, the water temp is 57 and at 60 degrees it is top water time. Big Fish on explosive top water action. DON'T GO IF YOU HAVE A WEAK HEART. LOL. This is my favorite time to fish.
